Hi All,
I need to understand whether it is possible to know the maximum acceptible IOPS for an LDev's configured in a storage array?
More details:
XP24000
DKR2G-K300FC (300GB) - 15K RPM
DKS2E-J400FC (400GB) - 10K RPM
All configured with RAID 5 (7D+1P or 14D+2P).
The reason is we have HP Performance agent configured for more than 1000 hosts which are currently monitored and once we know the acceptibel max IOPS per ldev/Lun it would be easy to identify some disk bottlenecks from OS point of view. Please note we dont have access to performace advisor for all the storage arrays hence need to monitor thru Openview performance agent.

Max IOPS per LDEV is something that is hard to find. Generally "Max IOPS" are defined at Raid Group level. It also depends on the IO type/pattern - Read/ Write, Sequential/Random. A high IOPS value on a LDEV does not necessarily mean a performance problem, it may be that the RAID group is capable of absorbing this IOPS as the rest of the LDEVs on that RG is idle/unused. You need to consider the IO response time on the LDEV along with IOPS to correctly determine a performance problem.
