ISL between 2 Gbps EL (v3.2.1c) and 8 Gbps (6.1.x)

According to the SPOCK, it's not supported to connect an older 2 Gbps switch running generation 3 firmware with an ISL to any 8 Gbps switch.

Support matrices aside, can anyone confirm that this will or will not work? Does it work but has side effects, or does it just not work at all?
Or will it work but just not qualified since the generation 3 switches are so old?

Re: ISL between 2 Gbps EL (v3.2.1c) and 8 Gbps (6.1.x)

I currently have 3.2.1c and 6.2.0a in the same fabric with no issues, but I only have 4GB switches.

One think that I thought of off the top of my head is that an 8GB switch does not support 1GB speeds.

Actually the 8Gbps switches do support 1Gbps speed, you just need the 4Gbps SFP's.

Curious, I was not aware you could run generation 3 firmware on 4 Gbps switches. I thought they started their life at version 4.x, but perhaps I remember incorrectly.

In any case, the customer decided to not even attempt an unsupported configuration since this is a production environment.

I'll close this thread, but to satisfy my own curiosity I connected a 3.2.1c switch to a 6.1.x 8 Gbps switch and I get an ISL but I never attempted any zoning or putting any load on th elink.
