ISL between two switches

Hi ,
I am planning to connect another set of switches to my existing switches .Let me explain using scenarion Switch A1 (Fabric A)has 32 ports and none of them is free .Sitch B1 (Fabric B) has 32 ports and 3 are free .To connect new Siwtch A2 in fabric A ,I want to take a cable from existing switch ,so that now it has 1 port free (while during the time the server X ,who's cable I have plugged out has only one path ) ,then connect Switch A1 to Switch A2 .Switch A2 is new with different domain id from Switch A1 .Both zone merge and form fabric ( A) .Now I just connect cable from server X to switch A2 ....I want to know is this feasible ?

Thnaks in advance .....

Re: ISL between two switches

In many cases it is as easy as you described, but there can be some traps:

- does the port of server X have some special settings?
-- speed locked?
-- locked as a G_ or F_port?
-- are you using port-based zoning here?

- do the old and new switches have compatible parameters?

Re: ISL between two switches

- does the port of server X have some special settings? No ,spped is AN ,as switch A1 is of 4Gb ,while switch A2 is of 8 Gb.
-- locked as a G_ or F_port? No
-- are you using port-based zoning here? No ,WWN based Zoning

- do the old and new switches have compatible parameters? Old sitch has Fabric OS 5.2 while new one fabric OS 6.1

Re: ISL between two switches

Read FOS release notes at first. Mixture 6.1 and 5.2 is not supported. Probably you have to upgrade old version.
