LUN migrate EVA 8400 with XCS 10001000

In the release notes for XCS 10001000 i read online disk migration (change vraid level or diskgroup). Our EVA 8400 upgraded to XCS 10001000 but i miss the migration option. On the P6000 EVA simulator i do see this option to migrate Vdisk. Could this possible have to do with Licensing?

Yes, AFAIR you need to business copy license. In fact you copy a vdisk to another vdisk and change the RAID level while doing this.

Hope this helps!

Re: LUN migrate EVA 8400 with XCS 10001000

From CV manual:

Online virtual disk migration

XCS 10000000 controller software supports online virtual disk migration, which allows you to
change the Vraid of the virtual disk, move a virtual disk from one disk group to another, or do both
in a single action, without impacting host I/O.

When a virtual disk is migrated, the storage system creates a mirrorclone of the virtual disk and
performs an online mirrorclone migration. This underlying operation is invisible to users and to the
presented hosts.

The online virtual disk migration features are part of the HP P6000 Business Copy license. Migrations
can occur only if a valid instant-on or permanent HP P6000 Business Copy license is present.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Are you using Command View EVA 9.4 or later? This is required, as well.

If you're not able to create a Snapclone, Snapshot or MirrorClone either the Vdisk must have an administrative lock or is Thin Provisioned. I'm not sure about Vdisks larger then 2TB at the moment.

Re: LUN migrate EVA 8400 with XCS 10001000

I think it has to do with the fact that the Luns are replicated. I'm able to create Snapclone, Snapshot or Mirrorclone of a replicated Lun except Migrate.

Re: LUN migrate EVA 8400 with XCS 10001000

Yes, Vdisks in a CA replication group can not be migrated. This is a known limitation at the moment. You need to remove the member from the replication group first, before LUN migration.
