MDS 9124e Blade Switch and MSA SAN Switch 2/8

Hi,

We're trying to connect these two San Switches, one is in a Blade Enclosure and the other in a MSA 1000.
At the moment we're at a stage were both ends are up but servers on the Blade Enclosure can not see the disks in the MSA 1000 and the other way around.

Are we missing something obvious?

First of all check if your switches are merged in one fabric or not. You need to set the switches to run in interop mode for successful merge.

Once they are merged and still if you don't see disks on server then check your SSP settings on MSA.
If SSP is disabled then all LUNs should be visible on all servers who are zoned with MSA.
If SSP is enabled then you need to map/present you LUNs to servers manually.

For switch merge help you may download the guide for B series with C series from below link:

Don't forget zoning :)
Maybe you need to do some link mapping in the OA as well for the blade enclosure?

Re: MDS 9124e Blade Switch and MSA SAN Switch 2/8

1. Pick one of your blade servers and verify if its logging into the MDS 9124e internal port. The internal port numbers are the same as the c-class blade server bay number.

If blade is not logging into the MDS switch, check the OS and the driver for your QLogic or Emulex FC HBA mezz card.

2. If it is logging into the MDS, do you have a working ISL (E-port connection) between the MDS 9124e and the MSA 2/8 Brocade SAN switch?

3. If the blade(s) is logging in all the way through to the MSA 2/8, check the SAN switch zoning.

Also check port license status, Cisco makes external port licensing "fun" ;)

Hi All,

Thanks for all the replies.

We installed Fabric Manager and used this tool to change the Defualt Zone Behaviour from deny to permit.

This resolved our issue.

Thanks and regards,
