Re: MSA 2012i Controller Failing Overnight

Hello,
the answer from HP-Support:
---------------------------
The workarround for this moment would be: delete all and start clean.
Don't use online VDISK intialization.
Make a configuration planning this to avoid to creating and delete items in one line.

To avoid this controller behavior we also working to get a fix at the controller code level.

At this moment no other workarround than recreation is available.
-----------------------------
How can i create a VDSIK offline??

Thanks for your help

Re: MSA 2012i Controller Failing Overnight

Marcus, does the fix that i suggested to Peter also work for you? save having to blitz the data on your MSA.

P.S. we replaced the controller and the chassis of our MSA and it did not solve the issue, the only thing that sorted it was enabling the Independent Cache Performance Mode.

Re: MSA 2012i Controller Failing Overnight

Thank you for finding this out because my Tech could not help me and wouldn't after he heared I was on Windows Server 2008.

I was suspecting that the MSA was thinking he had two controllers in stead of one. But reverting to the old firmware did not help.

Well...I enabled Independent Cache Performance mode and will see what happens.

Re: MSA 2012i Controller Failing Overnight

Marcus, I am having a look to see if i can find a document on how to create vdisks offline for you.

But in the meantime i have found this article which highlights another issue hp have with MSA's configured in single controller mode:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01470001&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

I will keep you posted. It is VERY interesting that others are having this same issue.

Cheers

Re: MSA 2012i Controller Failing Overnight

Marcus,

Try out these links. there maybe something in them which will help explain the issue with vDisks:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01394278/c01394278.pdf?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

This one is the best practices white paper:

Re: MSA 2012i Controller Failing Overnight

Hello James,

thanks for the link, but there is nothing
to create a vdisk offline.
Now i try again to create it online and will see, what happens.
The vdisk is 2,1 TB. Is this a problem?
I don't think so.

Greetings,

Markus

Re: MSA 2012i Controller Failing Overnight

Apologies Markus, i've been spelling your name wrong!

The overall size of the vdisk should not make any difference, i am not aware of any limits on size of the vdisk.

I am currently unable to connect into our clients MSA but when i do get access i will have a look for you and see if i can see anywhere where you can set it.

Failing that i believe we have a test MSA in our office which i might be able to play with.

Is the MSA still failing (as per your initial post)? I am curious to see if the fix i suggested worked for you as well.

Cheers mate
James
