MSA 60 Attached to Dell Power Edge R710

We have a MSA60 that we need to attach to a Dell Power Edge R710 with a HP P411/256 controller card (Running Windows 2008 R2).

Purpose: local backup cache (24hr catalog protection)

- Aside from the fact that itтАЩs not supported - will it work...?
- I dont need to boot from the MSA, all I need is a simple raid 5 volume.
- Management tasks are minimal, create/delete array, replace faulty disk if necessary.

There are a couple of threads on this that mention you need to install ACU & HP PL Support Pack.
- I donтАЩt really want to install 200mbтАЩs worth of software if there is a simpler way to create the volume.
Is there a way I can just boot into the controller card and create a simple logical volume ?

Thanks

Re: MSA 60 Attached to Dell Power Edge R710

For the interest in others that have a similar requirement -

1. Install the Array Configuration Utility (web only version)"cp013626" - downloaded from hp.com
2. Install the System Manager Homepage found on the MSA/ HP Smart Start CD.

Once you login to the SMH you can create a new volume.
The only issue I found is that the P411 controller tries to detect & manage the local mirrored volume (Which belongs to the Dell Controller)

That's great!

You didn't have to install any drivers?

Re: MSA 60 Attached to Dell Power Edge R710

Windows 2008 R2 automatically detected the card as Smart Array Controller (Media Driver) -
Driver Date: 05/02/2009
version: 6.12.4.64

If I run into any issues ill try and upgrade the driver first.
