MSA1000 shared spare drive

I have an MSA 1000 with two arrays, each array has 3 disks configured with RAID5 and one spare shared between the two arrays.
every disk has 72.8 GB of size including the spare.
When a disk fails in the first array , the shared spare after the rebuilding process will replace the failed disk.
My question is : what is the behavior of the shared spare if another disk fails in the second array before the replacement of the first failed disk of the first array ?

Re: MSA1000 shared spare drive

Hi,

You have one global spare disk for 2 arrays.
If one disk fails in the first array, the globa spare will be assigned to the first array. If a another disk fails in that same array before the first is replaced, your array continues to funtion on his read level with a decrease in performance.

If there is a disk faillure on the second array, and the global spare is in use. your second array will continue to funtion on his read level until the first disk is replaced and the global spare is free.

Both arrays will never use the global spare at the same time. It can be assigned to only one array at the same time.
