MSA1500+MSA20 performance drop

Hi!

Have problem with MSA1500+MSA20 performance.

MSA1500 active/active + MSA20 v2.08 firmware  + 4*250 RAID1+0

Try copy file 5-10Gb from server local disk to RAID or copy from ext. USB connected to server.

Speed 30mb/sec. but at any time performance can drop to 1-3 Mb/sec then at any time return to normal.

What's problem?

Hi,

if you only copy on the disks from the MSAs, is the speed OK then?

Or from the local disks on the server to the disks on the MSA?

I'd presume the problem lies with the external USB.

Re: MSA1500+MSA20 performance drop

I have 2 RAID 1+0 on MSA1500+MSA20 each 4*250GB SATA.

Speed drop on all copy try. From ANY source on ANY RAID.

From server local disk, external drive, network drive etc.

Problem inside MSA.... or may be HBA?

Re: MSA1500+MSA20 performance drop

Could well be. If you're jumping irregularly like that I'd say it sounds more likely if it's the HBA or cable.

Is this a SCSI MSA1500? Terminators perhaps?

You can with HP ADU run diagnostics, HP ACU for an overview and there is also the CLI at the front of the MSA1500 that you can use.

Was the performance better before?

Re: MSA1500+MSA20 performance drop

FC MSA1500 + MSA20 connected to c3000+BL460G1 with QLogic QMH2462 and Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem.

Early I can't see on copy speed.

It's use as SQL base storage. All ok.

Not so quickly but work.

Now I'm try to copy SQL base on external storage and see drop performance. 30mb-1mb-30mb.

From A RAID1+0  то B RAID 1+0 no problem - speed is stable 18 MB.

HMm.. ok. How are you measuring the performance? Maybe it's better with another protocol.

Re: MSA1500+MSA20 performance drop

Simple see on any file manager when copy file - WinExplorer, Total Commander etc.

When copy is starting performance up to 90 mb/sek -  it's cashe, then drop to 30 mb/sek and stable - it's HDD...then drop to 1 mb-- ???? and few minutes drrrrrrrrrr.. then up to 30mb on finish
