MSA1500 with two MSA30 - 10K and 15K dual channel

Hi all,

I am a noob regarding MSA1500, but i have a question:
-Is it possible to mix 10K and 15K disks on a msa1500 with respect of each speed. Thus , one msa30 with 15k disks running with max speed and another msa30 with 10k disks running on their max speed.

Or will all disks will be running 10k speed ?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

When hard drives of different types or sizes are included in the same enclosure,
the processing characteristics of the entire enclosure are reduced to that of the
slowest and smallest drive.

Regardless of being seated in different msa30 ? will still all disks in different msa30 be reduced to the slowest drive ?

Re: MSA1500 with two MSA30 - 10K and 15K dual channel

Each disk drive will, of course(!), run at its specified speed.

And each disk drive will *individually* negotiate its SCSI speed with the MSA controllers:
- an U320 drive will neg. at U160, because the MSA controller is U160
- an U160 drive will neg. at U160
- an U80 drive will neg. at U80, because it can't go faster, but the MSA controller can go slower
- if you see 5MB/sec -- that is a neg. problem

Only drives belonging to the same disk drive array are reduced to the size of the smallest drive in that array - independend from bus/enclosure bay position.

A wrong answer gets more points than a correct one?

The answer is wrong ? may i include a screenshot of our msa30 with only 15K disks and another msa30 with 10k disks ?

As you can see both msa30 are running with low rpm - i.e. 10k instead of one msa30 with 15k rpm. What exactly is wrong in the answer?

Re: MSA1500 with two MSA30 - 10K and 15K dual channel

That looks like a display error in the ACU.

If I got that right, all disk drives in box 3 are 300GB/15kRPM ones and not even part of a configuration, so the claim does not even apply, right?

Modern disk drives are little aerodynamic wonders - I cannot imagine how such a disk drive can operate at 2/3 of the specified speed.

Yes thats the answer i was looking for - but is it true ? Is it a ACU error. I am not sure about that. Can someone verify that ?

Thanks in advance !
