MSA2000 - Error notification from Hot Spare disk

Hi all, I'm getting a lot of emails from an MSA2000 storage, probably the disk is about to fail:

 

A41946 Disk detected error (Channel:0 ID:8 SN:9QJ6RFQC Encl:0 Slot:8) Key,Code,Qual=(03h,11h,00h) cdb:2f003a381e3f00004000 Info:3a381e5ah CmdSpc:0h FRU:0h SnsKeySpc:0h Medium Error unrecovered read error

The question is:

 

- As this disk is currently a Hot Spare for an existing VDisk, how is it possible that it's reporting "unrecovered read errors"? Shouldn't it be in a "standby" status, without performing any I/O?

 

Thanks in advance for any comments and recommendations regarding how to proceed...

I think the "scrubbing" runs also on this disk ...

Thanks Torsten, so it looks like it's behaving in an expected way... I was just a bit puzzled by those alerts.

 

I'll just proceed with the replacement
