MSL4048 and HP-UX looses devices

I have some troubles with lost devices on some HP-UX 11iv3 (March 2011) which addresses MSL4048-LTO5 FC drives, and no problems with a Windows server acting as Data Protector Server.

A new 'ioscan' or a reboot of the HP-UX servers gives lost devices of LTO5 drives.

The solution is to reboot the MSL4048!!!

The MSL4048 LTO5 drives are connected on 2 8/24 FC switches in Fabric mode, and the HP-UX servers are some BL860c i2 connected on Virtual Connect FC 8Gb, which are connected on the 2 same 8/24 FC switches.

Any idea ?

Check the HP-UX syslog for 'replace wwid' messages and do those commands if applicable.

Re: MSL4048 and HP-UX looses devices

no 'replace wwid' in the messages, but :

0/0/0/5/0/0/0: Device at device id 0xf0b00 has disappeared from Name Server GPN_FT
(FCP type) response, or its 'Port World-Wide Name' has changed.
device id = loop id, for private loop devices
device id = nport ID, for fabric/public-loop devices
System won't be able to see LUNs behind this port.

0/0/0/5/0/0/1: Device at device id 0x190a00 has disappeared from Name Server GPN_FT

device id = loop id, for private loop devices

Re: MSL4048 and HP-UX looses devices

I have seen such issues when the windows server "polls" the drives in SAN. Below article may help you on this.
