Max LUN per HBA

Hi,
What is the maximum LUN limit per FC HBA from the XP12000 Array and EVA8000 Array?
Info:
HP-UX 11iv2
4Gbps dual port fibre channel adapter

Thanks,
Srini

Re: Max LUN per HBA

Hi,
it is the queue depth which specifies the outstanding IOPs per LUN

XP
XP12000 max queue depth
XP12000 optimum queue depth is 16 for most workloads

HP-UX/EVA8000
device queue depth is set to 8 by default per LUN

HP-UX v 11.00 -> scsictl command
HP-UX v 11i -> kernel parameter scsi_max_qdepth
queuedepth should be increased e.g from 8 to 64 on EVA 8000 if only a few LUNs are being accessed
the pain is one part of the reality

Re: Max LUN per HBA

EVA8000:

Max 1023 luns all together
Max 255 luns per HBA target (on HP-UX, different for other OS's)

Re: Max LUN per HBA

Best is looking that up in the HP SAN Design Guide on
http://www.hp.com/go/sandesign

For the EVA you will find the numbers in chapter 11.

As an example in table 127 you will see that for EVA and HP-UX one HBA may see up to 32 EVAs and an HBA may have up to 255 LUNs.

Note that Continuous Access EVA will bring down these limits. Just read on in the SAN Guide.
