Mounting MSA2000 snapshot in Windows 2003

Hi there,

I want to be able to mount a snapshot from a MSA2000 in Windows, this will allow to back the data up. I know this is possible but I cannot find any documentation on how to do this, does anyone know how to do this or point me in the right direction?

Hi Wallis,

U can find the total scenerion from Windows 2003 via Command line Interface of MSA 2000.
You can connect controller A with the ip address 10.0.0.2 and controller B with 10.0.0.3. The subnetmask is 255.255.255.0. You can connect the controller with a serial connection and the parameters 115200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and no flow control. After connecting to the serial CLI you can execute the command: show_tech_support

The output can saved as the backup of MSA configuration.

I have a windows 2003 host that cannot see any snapshot volumes on the MSA. I went into the gui and set an explicit map to Controller B port 4 but still cannot see the snapshot volume. Do you need any special software before the volume is mapped?

Hi there Andre,

No, you don't need any special software. You will be able to mount snapshots into Windows by using the Cli on the MSA2000.

map volume vd01_v001_S0014 mapping a2.10

The above comnmand line tells the MSA to map to a volume(snapshot) called vd01_v001_S0014 which is on port a2, .10 is the lun to map to. You can find out what yours are either by the Gui or Cli using show volumes, look at the Cli pdf for command examples.

remove snapshot from windows then use;

unmap volume vd01_v001_S0014 host 5001438003b00b8e

to get the host ID then look in the manage interface or run 'show hosts' in a telnet session, something like 5001438003b00b8e. Obviously this is my example so the volumes and host id are different so again you will need to work out what yours are but the formatting of the commands are correct.
