Moving drives between drive enclosures

Hello

We are upgrading our EVA 4400 to an EVA 6400, the upgrade process will include adding additional drive enclosures. We will not add drives to the new enclosures immediately. We plan to move some of the drives from the existing enclosure into the new enclosure. Any thoughts or theories on how we should move the drives? At one time an enclosure required a minimum of 4 drives.

Re: Moving drives between drive enclosures

Hi,
if you have enough free space to ungroup the disk from the existing drives then before the installation of the new disk enclosures ungroup at least as much drives as much disk enclosures are you going to add. (there cannot be any empty - diskless enclosure in the EVA backend... after the addition of the enclosure into the EVA rack and before its cabling reshuffle the ungrouped disks into the new disk enclosures...
the pain is one part of the reality

We do not have every much free space in the disk group.

"We do not have every much free space in the disk group."

you need at least free space of double the size of the disk that you are going to ungroup in the disk group.. so if you have a 300 GB drive then you need to have 600 GB of free space.. if this becomes an issue then you have the option to free up some more space by reducing the sparing level from double to single...
