NO_HW on EVA4400

we have just resolved a problem with our EVA4400.

The disks are presented to our HP9000 server however, when running an ioscan I receive the following..

/dev/dsk/c2t6d0 /dev/rdsk/c2t6d0
disk 3 0/8/0/0.1.249.1.0.0.1 sdisk NO_HW DEVICE HP HSV300

/dev/dsk/c3t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c3t0d1
disk 5 0/8/0/0.1.249.1.0.0.2 sdisk NO_HW DEVICE HP HSV300

I have tried rebooting my server, but still get the same, how can I get my server to read the disks again ??

Re: NO_HW on EVA4400

I'm pretty sure the problem is on the array side or between (SAN/switches), not on the server. Check switch and array with CV.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: NO_HW on EVA4400

The two hardware paths point to the same FCA port and the same EVA controller. There should be another 3 paths for each disk. Do these appear as CLAIMED?

Can you check that the 4 ports of the EVA are online and that the zoning allows that server to access that port?

Re: NO_HW on EVA4400

Check in commandview if both controllers are up.

Check the switches.

Pathes over the first switch are dead, pathes over the second are alive.

Did You change anything (like ports on switch)???

You "new" devices don't have device files!

create them using "insf" if needed.

Hope this helps!

Re: NO_HW on EVA4400

I have run the insf and device files are there now.

The switch the server was plugged into has been changed.

Do I need to do anything on the server to implement this change?

Re: NO_HW on EVA4400

new switch = new device files = new configuration.

If this is a VG other than vg00, use vgexport(vgimport to re-import this VG and reflect this change.

Hope this helps!

Re: NO_HW on EVA4400

The server is still connected to the same switch it always was. However, the storage has been moved from its original switch to the same one as the server.

Re: NO_HW on EVA4400

Since the switch itself (domain ID) and the port where the storage connects are part of the hardware path, any change will cause a new path and a new device file.

This does NOT happen with hp-ux 11.31, but on all previous versions.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
