Port stats with errors on 4/16 SAN switches
when checking port stats on my switches (4/16)I found some errors:
stat_wtx 1822645600 4-byte words transmitted
stat_wrx 998955104 4-byte words received
stat_ftx 1922234055 Frames transmitted
stat_frx 1147652536 Frames received
stat_c2_frx 0 Class 2 frames received
stat_c3_frx 1147652536 Class 3 frames received
stat_lc_rx 0 Link control frames received
stat_mc_rx 0 Multicast frames received
stat_mc_to 0 Multicast timeouts
stat_mc_tx 0 Multicast frames transmitted
tim_rdy_pri 0 Time R_RDY high priority
tim_txcrd_z 35295 Time BB credit zero
er_enc_in 0 Encoding errors inside of frames
er_crc 0 Frames with CRC errors
er_trunc 0 Frames shorter than minimum
er_toolong 0 Frames longer than maximum
er_bad_eof 0 Frames with bad end-of-frame
er_enc_out 1188264 Encoding error outside of frames
er_bad_os 1004602 Invalid ordered set
Can anybody tell what's the possible cause of these errors and if I should be concerned.
There are no ISL's involved.
I'd appreciate any help

Re: Port stats with errors on 4/16 SAN switches
thanks for the reply.
These statistics were taken from a test setup running for a few days. There were no hba's without firmware connected.
Stats were cleared a few days before checking.
I've especially high tim_txcrd_z (Time BB credit zero)reading for ports were EVA array is connected. Switches run at 5.3.0 firmware.
I'm going to upgrade them right now. Hope this will help..

Re: Port stats with errors on 4/16 SAN switches
By the way:
when I wrote 'without firmware being loaded', I meant the software that is usually loaded into the on-board RISC processor by the operating system's device driver - I was not talking about the "option ROM" which is permanently stored on the adapter (although, I admit, that in-house we call it 'firmware', too).

Re: Port stats with errors on 4/16 SAN switches
Firmware update to 5.3.1a didn't help.
I can still see tim_txcrd_z,er_enc_out,er_bad_os errors.
I don't know what to do about them.
I understand 'Invalid ordered set' errors but the other two are mystery to me.
Can anybody tell me what causes them?
Thank you,
Wieslaw
