Presented luns not visible to hosts

Hi,

In a new EVA6400 installation, we have 2 hosts connected through a single san switch (MDS 9124). 1 of the hosts is an X3800 which we are using as the SMA station (for CvEVA). The other is one of the customer designated hosts. Although, we are able to use all LUNs presented to the SMA station, there is no way we can detect the luns in the hosts. Ensured that the WWNs are correct, but to no results.

Can you experts suggest some workaround.

We have tried by exchanging the switch port connections also, but that is not helping.

Moreover, in the CvEVA, when adding hosts, the Port WWN drop down list does not contain any entires.

Re: Presented luns not visible to hosts

If in drop down you don't see server HBA wwns then there is some zoning issue with the switch. This simply tells that CV EVA is not able to see the server so how LUNs will be visible.

Correct the zoning/connectivity, then you will be able to see the LUNs.

Hey!

Are you even running zoning?

The customer hosts - is that server booted up?

Has the customer hosts logged on to the SAN-switch?

Do you see leds blinking on the FC HBA/SAN Switch where the customer hosts are connected?

Re: Presented luns not visible to hosts

There is no zoning configured presently. Also tried by creating a zone with the customer host and the controllers (both)-there are no entries in the Port WWN dropdown list.

The customer host is up. Can see that the port to which customer host is connected is on but not blinking.

What OS are you running on the customer host?

Can you see that it is logged in to the port on the SAN-switch?

Re: Presented luns not visible to hosts

Hi Johan,

Thanks for your response.

The OS is Windows Server 2008 (64-bit)
From switch "sh int bri" output, the ports are showing as up. (but the LEDs are green and constant-no blinking)

Re: Presented luns not visible to hosts

You are not seeing the HBA port WWNs in the Command View EVA host port pull-down. If you are not seeing the HBA port WWNs at the switch ports, then the HBAs have power, but they are not running. You need the latest HBA driver from HP's web-site. Getting the latest MPIO driver and MPIO manager also from HP's web-site would also help.

Re: Presented luns not visible to hosts

Might also be a good idea to get the HBA tool (qlogic sansurfer or emulex hbanywhere or brocade hcm) - what is the status of the HBA in there?

Re: Presented luns not visible to hosts

In Sansurfer, HBA status is showing GOOD. At the switch end, all ports are up. Cisco Fabric Manager is showing the HBA WWNs. But there is nothing I can do to make the hosts see the Vdisks. The hosts are using either Ologic QME2572 or QLA2340 HBAs. The http://connect.qlogic.com/documents/datasheets/interopguide/SANInteroperabilityGuide.pdf is not listing any of the models for 64xx(Page 229). Does this bring us to a dead-end or can there be some workarounds, without considering new hardware
