Procedure to swap drive with s.m.a.r.t errors on MSA1000

Hi All

I've got an MSA1000 with a drive showing S.M.A.R.T errors. The LEDs indicate the drive is still being accessed (blinking amber drive X, but green arrow showing activity) so I'm scared to hot swap it in the current state. What's the correct procedure to change this one out?

Thanks
Mark

In my experience Mark if the drive is showing SMART errors its in a predictive failure mode and can be hot swapped with no trouble.

It's not supported to just remove a disk that's online and being accesed. You should power off the enclosure to replace it or wait for it to be put in failed state.

Mark,
I would suggest to check the connected device to the MSA and stop the service (ie backup or database services) before shutting down the MSA box.

If the LED is still active, its best to do a warm reboot to check the the disk is faulty or not. There is a possibility that the disk activity is stuck in between the IO operation, and full recycle would clear them.

Thanks.
