Qlogic HBA not being recognized by Brocade

I have 2 new blades that were just installed with dual Qlogic HBA. I added the WWNs of Qlogic HBA port 1, for each server, to Brocade switch A zoning. Brocade switch A is fabric A and can see attached devices on Qlogic port 1. No issues.

Brocade switch B is fabric B and cannot see attached devices on Qlogic port 2. I added the WWNs into Brocade switch B for both blades using the port 2 Qlogic WWNs. Same as for Fabric A. Brocade switch B will not recognize the WWNs. Additionally I rescanned devices through Qlogic bios and it is not recognizing any devices on port 2.

I have four other blades that are currently configured in the enclosure funtioning on both Qlogic ports.

Any ideas?

Re: Qlogic HBA not being recognized by Brocade

Are you running in mixed mode on your fabric by any chance (I'm an HP bod and not a SAN bod so scuse any incorrect terminology)?

We had issues like this when we had a mixed brocade and McData environment. It was only finally solved when we migrated entirely to Brocade and turned mixed mode off i believe.

Re: Qlogic HBA not being recognized by Brocade

Tony,

do you see the WWN of port 2 of this Qlogic mezzanine card in your Brocade B switch ?

Does the switchshow command output give you any F-port i.e. or what does it show as status for that Brocade port where the Qlogic port 2 maps onto ?

i.e.

brocade1:admin> switchshow
switchName: brocade1
switchType: 43.2
switchState: Online
switchMode: Native
switchRole: Subordinate
switchDomain: 3
switchId: fffc03
switchWwn: xx
zoning: OFF
switchBeacon: OFF

Any Virtual Connect FC interconnect modules involved in your blade enclosure setup ?

Re: Qlogic HBA not being recognized by Brocade

I was so out of ideas, that for the replies.

Kris your suggestion had me look better at Switch B Qlogic port. The switchshow command showed that the port was disabled with no POD license. This lead me to another thread with a similar issue. Basically the port had to be enable with a license. I did the following to resolve the issue and enable the port:

Switch B

>switchshow #output will show if port disabled
>licenseport --show

24 ports are available in this switch

No POD licenses are installed

Dynamic POD method is in use

12 port assignments are provisioned for use in this switch:

12 port assignments are provisioned by the base switch license

* 6 port assignments are added if the first POD license is installed

* 6 more assignments are added if the second POD license is installed

12 ports are assigned to installed licenses:

12 ports are assigned to the base switch license

Ports assigned to the base switch license:

0*, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7*, 8, 11*, 12*, 17, 18

Ports assigned to the first POD license:

None

Ports assigned to the second POD license:

None

Ports not assigned to a license:

6, 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23

#Note that port 0, 7, 11, and 12 have licenses but nothing assigned to those ports. In this case we

want port 6 to have a license and we will take one away from port 0 so we:

>licenseport -release 0
>portenable 6

Note: portenable 6 command will fail if nothing is connected to that port.

Once again thanks for the help!

Re: Qlogic HBA not being recognized by Brocade

Glad it fixed your issue, many have been caught by this POD license mechanismn before including myself ;-)
