Removing Hard Port Zoning on Brocade FC Switch

I am trying to zone a machine on our SAN, but cannot get the zoning to work correctly. I believe it is due to the hardware port that is being used was previously used and configured as a Hard Port zone.

How can i remove the hard zoning on the port, and set it back to a "Not Zoned" enforcement configuration?

Below is the output of portZoneshow; I am referring to port 12.

Local Zoning Port-level information:

PORT: 0 enforcement: Not Zoned defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 1 enforcement: Not Zoned defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 2 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 3 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 4 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 5 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 6 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 7 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 8 enforcement: E-Port defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 9 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 10 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 11 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 12 enforcement: HARD PORT defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 1
PORT: 13 enforcement: HARD WWN defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 14 enforcement: E-Port defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0
PORT: 15 enforcement: Not Zoned defaultSoftZone: 0 defaultHardZone: 0

It is also showing that port 12 has a defaulthardZone of 1. How do I reset all that and clear it out?

Thanks,
Tom Callahan

Re: Removing Hard Port Zoning on Brocade FC Switch

It's been some time I've tried to get rid of the whole zoning configuration, but I'd go this way:

> cfgDisable
> cfgClear
> cfgSave

Watch out as that means that any port can talk to any other one in the fabric.

I would love to try that... but it's a production switch :)

Doing those commands would whack the entire zoning, therefore dropping the servers connecting.

We have several Linux and UNIX machines that are headless and receive storage solely from the SAN.

Any other way to change the above?

Oh, sorry. Obviously I have misunderstood you.

It sounds like you have a zone member with a domain:port pair in your configuration. Can you capture the current setup with:

> cfgShow

and post it here as a .TXT attachment? I'm sure somebody of us can help you identify it.

Tom:

I think if you just change the zoning, these values will change along with it.

Just remove any reference to port 12 from your zoning config. Save and Enable. Check with portzoneshow and see if it has changed.

If it has, next try zoning it the way you want it. save/enable.

Re: Removing Hard Port Zoning on Brocade FC Switch

I have tried zoning it, but every time I do that entry does not change.

We use the web-based zoning agents, and have tried every type of zoning possible. My main concern is that once zoning is completed, I can show the WWID's configuration, and it shows the zones I have set up, but it is not marking them as "effective". I have verified that I am enabling the config once done as well....

Below is the output of cfgShow:

tab_bernstein_tape_zone; tab_bernstein_zone;
tab_bud_tape_zone; tab_bud_zone; tab_capone_tape_zone;

Re: Removing Hard Port Zoning on Brocade FC Switch

Tom:

have you tried unzoning it? Make sure it is not part of any zone or alias and save/enable.

Then see where you are at.

Re: Removing Hard Port Zoning on Brocade FC Switch

It is currently not present in ANY zoning.
