Replace HBA card on Windows Cluster connected to MSA 1000
We connected 2 DL380 G5 servers directly to MSA 1000 directly. This we configured in Windows 2003 cluaster for Exchange 2003. Now we are facing issue with one of the servers HBA card and it needs to be replaced. How can we replace the HBA card safely without affecting Windows Cluster and what are the precuations that we should take care.
Thanks in Advance

Is that a SCSI or FC HBA?

Re: Replace HBA card on Windows Cluster connected to MSA 1000
The presentation (and maybe zoning if you have the switches) needs to be changed as the WWN of the HBA will change when you replace it.
As for windows clustering, can't you shut down the node and run it on one during the replacement, then maybe after it's powered up again you can sync them?

Re: Replace HBA card on Windows Cluster connected to MSA 1000
What I would do is the following:
- failover all resources / applications to one node;
- document the WWN of the HBA being replaced (can be checked on the storage array or by using the System Management Homepage);
- shutdown the server and replace the HBA card;
- change the WWN on the storage array and reconfigure the presentation;
- do a device rescan, as well as a rescan of the hard disks.
- if everything is ok, you should be able to failover the resources as before.
Success!

Re: Replace HBA card on Windows Cluster connected to MSA 1000
Hi what Ruben says is correct... you might also consider putting the old WWN on the new FC-Card.. this way you don't need to change anything considering presentation and zoning... it;s just swapping the fc-card.. boot server - get into FC-Card Bios - put in the old WWN save - and of you go... it should work again..

Re: Replace HBA card on Windows Cluster connected to MSA 1000
Some instructions to replace HBAs on server here but in this case, obviously cluster resources needs to failover to passive node and perform HBA replacement activity.
