Re: SAN: Lun assignment without zoning.
but why you want to skip zoning and what do you mean to say it can be done with hard zoning?

Re: SAN: Lun assignment without zoning.
Zoning should still be implemented, even if only one storage array is being used with several servers connected. Each server adapter should be in a separate zone together with the storage array - this prevents 'cross talks'.

Re: SAN: Lun assignment without zoning.
Over here, the term "San" is not being used. SAN is short for "Storage Area Network" and is not an acronym for a Fibre Channel / iSCSI storage array. A SAN includes one or more storage arrays, the network infrastructure (FC-/IP-based) and the servers.

Re: SAN: Lun assignment without zoning.
The term "peer-to-peer" is usually used in a computer network, where clients directly talk to each other:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer
But watch out - on a QLogic adapter, "Point-To-Point" means talking fabric protocol on a connection to a Fibre Channel switch. Technically, this is true, because in that case the adapter has a direct link to the FC switch with no other components in the path.
