SAN Switch 2/16 configUpload fails

I am using Xflight as my FTP server on my Windows Vista 64 bit PC and I can connect to my SAN switch 2/16 via Telnet to 10.77.77.77 and login as admin. No problem.

But when I try to run configUpload to save my SAN switch configuration I get an errors saying upload failed and transfer failed.

I have attached a file showing what I'm doing and the error messages.

Can anyone please help me.

So if it's 10.77.77.77 your probably not connected to any other switches in any way correct? I'm assuming your just rehearsing an implementation of some sort...

If you can change that IP address and domain ID and retry it would be a good start. I don't recall and I'm too lazy to lookup the default domain ID... but change it to a unique ID (not one you are already using on SAN)

you said vista PC connected to switch. Does that mean over a network or direct with an ethernet cable. it sounds like you are possibly modifying your network and network card to see a 10. net address, correct?

If, on the other hand this is a "production Switch" you are still going to want to change the ip address to something unique.

If you have multiple switches and they all are default IP address 10.77.77.77 you want to be careful how you access them. Direct connect from laptop is the best way to change IP address(s)... Then you can put them on a network and telnet/ftp into them at will...

If this is "production" make sure you write a MOP (method of proceedure) and submit proper change requests and configuration info. If you are a small shop and don't have/follow ITSM guidelines, write one anyway and submit here...

I am using a crossover cable to connect directly to the SAN switch from PC (running Windows Vista 64 bit). I am not connecting over any network.

There are two SAN switches and with both I am getting the same upload failed errors when I try to use configUpload.

Now that you know I am connecting directly from my PC to the SAN switches are you able to help me now.

Danesh... You are not connected to any network. And obviously your FTP site is on some network...

You need to connect your laptop on same network as your FTP and then upload the file..

If it is an internet ftp site then you need your laptop to have a internet connection

pasted from my notes...

1. Get copy of Bison Ftp from ECU CD or web site and install in on your laptop
2. Start Bison Ftp server
Hit the Bison Icon
Make sure the tool bar indicates Bison is enabled.
Note your IP or IPâ s listed - this will be the host IP
They are in the server log- make sure it is visable
3.a Enable Bison FTP upload for anonymous FTP
Hit Groups Tool button in tool bar
select Folder Tab
Navigate to default directory in left window
C:/Program Files/BisonFTP Server V4R1/root
Check Upload Box in the access list.
if not done a No Access to Upload files message will occur
3.b Moving the default directory - Optional
This is for those who want to control were the files go
Create a new directory like d:/brocade
Click Users Icon button in the Tool Bar
anonymous it the should be in the left window
anonymous users should be in the right window
check disable users box
click close button
Click the Group Icon button in the Tool Bar
Select the General Tab
Enter the directory name of choice in the Home Folder Window
Select the Folders Tab
Select the correct Drive Letter for your new directory
Navigate the Available Folders Window to get to your directory
Check Upload in Access List
Click OK
Click Users Icon button in the Tool Bar
anonymous it the should be in the left window
anonymous users should be in the right window
uncheck disable users box
click close button
4. Start Reflections from your Laptop
Connections telnet
hostname switch_ip_address
Fabric OS â ¢ Release aX.X.X
login: default is admin
passord : default is password
5. Configupload to save current configuration to host
Switch_11:admin> configupload "host_ip","user_name", "file", "password"
or
Switch_11:admin> configupload
Server Name or IP Address [host]: 15.17.35.71 use ip
User Name [user]: anonymous
File Name [config.txt]: switch_2 Protocol (RSHD or FTP) [rshd]: ftp
Password: user_password upload complete approx 10 sec
Files will end up in the the default anonymous directory

No. Danesh said that he could telnet to the switch, which short of proves that the network is working.

I'll guess that the Windows firewall is probably blocking the incoming FTP traffic from the switch.

I think you missed what Danish said. Please read all his posts first

He can obviously telnet to the switch this way but he is still not on the same network as the FTP site.

I'm pretty sure you can run an FTP server from a laptop over a crossover cable which is what he had indicated he was doing. I've done it this way myself, but it's been a while.

He also indicated he was using 10.77.77.77 to connect, which indicates to me he's not really on a network yet for managing these switches.

So, I can see it's possible that thinking there is a pseudo ethernet network gets stuck in your head because of the FTP server element. But it seems like it's not in the case of this thread. I get the cases mixed up often, if I'm looking at enough of them...
