SAN Switch unable to detect host HBA

Hi,

I have installed Qlogic 4GB HBA on my windows 2003 proliant server and installed drivers from smartstart for EVA.

Now when i connect fibre cable with HBA card and san switch the HBA shows continous AMBER LED and am not able to see HBA card WWN on SAN switch.

Please help me resolve this issue

Re: SAN Switch unable to detect host HBA

Continuous amber LED means the switch is receiving a signal from the adapter, but no link established - maybe the other fiber path is defective. I would try a different fiber cable, switch port/transceiver, adapter port.
Also check if the adapter and the switch port are locked at different speeds.

Hi Zessin,

Thanks for the response.

I have tried different cable, different port on switch and even different adapter but nothing worked.
How can i check the speed on both HBA and san Switch ends?

Re: SAN Switch unable to detect host HBA

Hi Fenny,

on the switch side you can run the command 'switchshow' ,you will see the speed at which that port is linked up with the external HBA/array port.
In your case (assuming there is a problem) you might see nothing or the reason why there is no link i.e.
It would be good to post the output of the switchshow command so we can see the port status. Check the HBA status also in Windows device manager.

example: N4 means 4Gbit, N2 means 2 GBit

brocade1:admin> switchshow

Area Port Media Speed State Proto
=====================================
0 0 -- N4 No_Module
1 1 cu N4 Online F-Port 50:01:10:a0:00:85:83:c
2 2 cu N4 Online F-Port 50:01:43:80:03:bd:4b:9
3 3 cu N4 Online F-Port 50:01:43:80:02:9e:e9:6
4 4 cu N4 Online F-Port 50:01:43:80:03:bd:44:e
5 5 cu AN No_Sync Disabled (Persistent)

Brocsw2:admin> switchshow

Area Port Media Speed State
==============================
16 0 id N2 No_Light
17 1 id N2 Online F-Port 50:05:08:b3:00:91:11:f9
18 2 id N2 Online F-Port 10:00:00:00:c9:2c:cf:01

=> on the Windows host side, you can install the configuration utility for the FC HBA which is SANsurfer for Qlogic HBA's(HBAnyware for Emulex), it is downloadable from www.hp.com. This should be the one you need :

Re: SAN Switch unable to detect host HBA

Have you tried a different HBA windows driver? Try one from qlogic.

Re: SAN Switch unable to detect host HBA

Check your port settings on the switch. Is the port licensed and is it enabled?
