Slow Copy Performance in SAN
We are copying Files from one Filesystem to another Filesystem, both located on the same Storage Device (EVA6400) and within the same Blade. The copy process is extremely slow (10 GB in 45 min).
System Involved: HP Integrity BL870c, Storage Involved: HP EVA6400
Hope someone can help us on this.
Thanks,
Otep

Re: Slow Copy Performance in SAN
Are both file systems mounted on one blade server?
Are they from two different LUNs?
When you created the file systems (which fs by the way?) did you do any tuning? What is the block size etc?
If you do reading or writing to one of the filesystems - is the speed acceptable then?
On the EVA - how many disks in the disk group and what RAID? What type of disks?
What kind of files are you copying?
There are tools to measure performance - check out iometer.

Re: Slow Copy Performance in SAN
What about fc_hba settings? queues etc,
Do you have any other servers connected to the EVA that are fast/slow too?

Re: Slow Copy Performance in SAN
What do you have for the Fabric switches and are they and the server HBA's set to 4 or 8 GB? What is the speed of the PFS plug for your fabric switchs?
I have this EVA 6400 system and other EVA's and fabric switches and you should be getting a better speed.
Is your filesystem on just one LUN and is anything else on the same LUN. if you have only this system on this LUN then you can do a EVA clone if you have the rights.
More info would be helpfull to help you.
