Texas memory systems RamSan 620

Has anyone on the forum used the RamSan. We have two of them we installed today. We completed the LUN and zoning setup. An IOSCAN shows something found but a disk device is never created. It seems like it might be a multipath issue but no way to tell. Any tips on how to diagnose this?

Re: Texas memory systems RamSan 620

You mentioned ioscan so you are using this with hp-ux? Is hp-ux server platform supported by this storage device?

Typically with storage systems when you present a LUN to a server you select a server platform type. This server type parameter tells the storage system how to present the LUN to the server, different server platforms expect to see different signature values when the check the LUN as a hardware device. Does ramsan have this setting? If it does and hp-ux in not there, you might try some other setting but it may or may not work.

What exactly is shown? Post the output of ioscan. Multipathing should not be a problem, the LUN should show up separately for each path.

RamSan claims hp-ux support. What HP-UX server and os version do you have and is the os up to date with patching, specially hardware patches and fiber?

Re: Texas memory systems RamSan 620

We use a RamSan-620 with HP-UX 11.23 and had exactly the same problem with LUN IDs 8 and higher, while LUN IDs 0-7 are working. The reason is, that the RamSan uses PDA adressing mode for LUNs < 255 and VSA for LUNs higher 255. In 11.23 LUNs > 7 seem not to work with PDA adressing mode. According to the TMS support HP-UX 11.31 works properly with LUN IDs > 7, so we are planning an upgrade in the next month. Hope this information may help you.

Re: Texas memory systems RamSan 620

So it turns out I needed to lower the LUN id. The support team at TMS had me lower it 0 and all is well. thanks all.
