Upgrade EVA6000 to EVA4400

Hello All,

I have been assigned to carry-out the following tasks;

1 - Deploy a new EVA 4400 and migrating data from exiting EVA 6000.
2 - Configuration of EVA Continuous Access between EVA 6000 and EVA 4400.
3 - Cutover of up to seven (7) hosts to new storage array.

Any advise on the above will be appreciated as I am quite new to this storage area and it is my new job as well.

Kind Regards,

Wow...that is a plate full of requests. :) OK I suggest you take some online training avaiable from HP about SANs and then dive into the manuals.

URL for free online training is:

http://h10076.www1.hp.com/education/curr-storsan.htm

URL for EVA manuals is:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual〈=en&cc=us&docIndexId=64179&taskId=115&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=470490

I would strongly recommend digging through the SAN Design Guide, in the above URL and also the Connectivity Guides for the OS that you are using.

URL for Continuous Access is :

http://h10076.www1.hp.com/education/curr-storsan.htm

Re: Upgrade EVA6000 to EVA4400

Thanks Marcus - I appreciate your response with the links provided.

Could you shed some light on how am going to physicall connect old EVA 6000 and new EVA 4400 to migrate the data, through zonning?

Also, what steps need to be taken to Configure EVA Continuous Access between EVA 6000 and EVA 4400?

kIndest Regards,

Hello Ausaf... Ok, to physically connect the two you need to make sure that both EVAs have Command View and Continuous Access licenses. Then I would ensure that each server has two HBAs in them and zone one to the old EVA 6000 and the other to the new EVA4400. Try to move the data as quickly as possible using Continuous Access. Not knowing your exact configuration, I would suggest create one DR group per LUN and get it to replicate to the EVA4400. Then when it is done. Stop the replication and point the server at the new LUN.

As far as what exact step you need to do this. You will need to look in the SAN Design Guide found in this URL. It is full of good info.
