Upgrade MSA1000 / VA7410 from direct connect to Switched environment

I have a rp7410 with a prod and dev partition.
the prod is direct connected to a msa1000.
The dev is direct connected to a va7410.
I would like to create a San environment.
I have 2 AA979A switches and would like to add these to the environment.

Can I get both partitions to see both disk systems??

If I can do this , do I have to repartition the disks??
Or can I connect via the San and still see my data??

Thanks Mike

Re: Upgrade MSA1000 / VA7410 from direct connect to Switched environment

hi,

given that you've checked compatibility with the switches already, yes you should be able get both partitions to see both disk arrays, you should not have to re-partition your disks, use zoning in the switches to enable or disable access to the storage arrays from either node if required, use ssp on the storage arrays to control lun presentation to the the two partitions. have you got two hba's for each partition ? if so you've probably got multi-pathing software already - for redundancy cable one port from each array and one hba from each partition to each switch.

note :- do not share volumes if you do not intend implementing a shared/cluster filesystem
