VSAN and SAN

hi

I am new to storage.What is VSAN??it means virtual SAN I know.http://csayantan.wordpress.com/storage/vsan_and_vlan/

I know only that part.But I want to know in brief with some elaborated way.Please explain the concept of VSAN.How Faabric OS detect a VSAN??

VSAN is a Cisco thing.

Says that it may be supported in FOS 6.4 to route between a VSAN and a Virtual Fabric (Brocade thing, similar but not the same). I looked around briefly and couldn't find any information about that.

VSAN is good if you have some SAN islands that you may not want part of a standard fabric a/b setup. On Cisco you would use IVR zoning to route between nodes in different VSANs.

VSAN is also discussed in EMC also.probably they incorporate the idea from Cisco.

VSAN is basically some physically SAN island of different fabric. :-)
