Re: bl460c g6 boot from san

You need to enable the boot capability in the BIOS of the HBA first. Then you can see it from switch and storage, zone it and assign a LUN.

Hope this helps!

Re: bl460c g6 boot from san

Hi Ilayy,

When you power on the server you will get a option like press F8 or Ctrl+Q to go to the HBA BIOS.

Go there and enable the Boot BIOS for HBA. Save the configuration and exit.

Now on the switch you can see the WWN of HBA, zone it with Storage.

Add the Host into the storage and assign the volume to it.

Again fo to the HBA BIOS and then select the boot lun option. If zoning is correct then you will see a LUN from MSA2000 there in list and lun id also. Select that LUN as boot lun. Save and Exit.

Now install the OS as normal procedure.

Re: bl460c g6 boot from san

hi all
thanks for your help
i have enable the hba bios on the server and the wwn appear on the switch i have configured the zoning but the problem now is thath the wwn does not appear on the msa so i am not able to present a volume to the host as the host is not discovered.
i have tried to manually create the host and redo zoning but nothing works at the hba level no luns exists.
please advice

Re: bl460c g6 boot from san

You need to force the server to scan the SAN. Once this is done, the MSA2000 will see the WWN.
I assume starting the installation will do this (or there is another setting in the HBA BIOS, I'm not sure at the moment).

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: bl460c g6 boot from san

I think you did not tell what type of HBA you have.

Hope this helps!
