disk failure

Hi.

one of the disks failed in an eva4400 and it shows up in the ungrouped disks. Is this normal behavior, that when a disk fails it turns up as ungrouped?

thanks!

Re: disk failure

before removing/replacing this failed disk, do i need to do the "remove" in the failed disk properties page?

Re: disk failure

When a disk is having too many errors the controllers can ungroup it.
You should check the logs, but if you have not ungroupped it yourself, then that's likely what happened.
You should now click "Remove", replace that disk and add the new one to the disk group.

Re: disk failure

btw, is it safe to do the usual tasks in the storage like create new luns or extend existing ones?

Re: disk failure

Yes, once a disk is marked as failed, the controllers start the rebuild process. This is a high priority operation that finishes usually in few hours.
Then the disk group is back to the normal redundancy status, only with less free space, since there's one disk less.
