please recommend the new model of 16 ports HP SAN switch

We need to purchase a 16 ports switch, and have to be HP/brocade type. Would you please recommend a new model of this?

Thanks!

Re: please recommend the new model of 16 ports HP SAN switch

P.S.

What we have now is StorageWorks 4/8. Is this still going to be the one on the market, or if there is any newer model?

How about the StorageWorks 8/24?

You can purchase a 16 port license for now and then if you need more ports you can purchase the licensing to go to 24 ports.

Does it have to be new?

You can try after market vendors and/or HP Refurb for a similar 4GB switch.

All of the new 8GB switches should be compatible with your 4GB switch though.

Re: please recommend the new model of 16 ports HP SAN switch

ColinF,

24 ports switch is too large for us. Do you have recommendation on 16 ports as MAX? we only need a few ports for now. we need to have Brocade compatible, since we are familiar with these commands.

Do they still sell StorageWorks 4/8? any replacement for it?

HP has an after market/refurb division. Your vendor should be able to help you, if you have one.

The 4/8 is retired hardware...

Re: please recommend the new model of 16 ports HP SAN switch

Steven,

I know 4/8 is retired HW. But what is the model for the replacement? When I talk to after market division, I can then tell them the model.

Re: please recommend the new model of 16 ports HP SAN switch

I'm assuming you want new. I don't think there is anything smaller. If you ask hp for a current switch similar to yours they will likely recommend the 8/24 with an 8 or 16 port license.

Re: please recommend the new model of 16 ports HP SAN switch

come to think of it, what is the output of "switchshow"? Are you sure that switch isn't a 16 port with only 8 ports licensed?

Re: please recommend the new model of 16 ports HP SAN switch

Sorry if I was not clear...

"Do they still sell StorageWorks 4/8? any replacement for it?"

My answer: You can still likely get the 4/8 though HP's after market/refurb/refresh division. Your vendor should be able to help you, if you have one.

If you don't have one, you should find one. What part of the country are you in?

The replacement would be the 8/24 with an 8port license, but it may cost your more since some 4GB transiver kits are not compatible with the 8GB switch.

You can probably also get a 4/16 if you needed more ports. (from the refresh/refurb program)
