upgrade StorageWorks 4/8 SAN Switch

I have some SAN switches with fw 5.0.1b, I would like to upgrade to last version; which step I have to do? it's very needed to go through every step? What do you think about this procedure?
1) save configuration
2) load 6.2.2a
3) load configuration saved

thanks a lot,Gaetano

Re: upgrade StorageWorks 4/8 SAN Switch

Sort of... there is a little bit more work invloved as you need to jump firmware levels.

Since you have 5.0.x...

you will need to go to 5.1.x or 5.2.x first
than 5.3.x
Once at 5.3.x, go to 6.0 (probably the easiest)
then finally you shold be able to hit 6.2.x

The problem is the firmware will not allow you to upgrade more than 2 sub versions at one time..

There have been many messages posted about this and I am sure with a quick search, you'll be able to find all the links you need to all the intermediate firmwares. I do not have them handy at the moment.

At the end, you should not need to reload your configuration. It shold have been "kept" intact through the upgrade process.

I would definitely back it up though.

Re: upgrade StorageWorks 4/8 SAN Switch

After looking over my notes, and checking some of the other posts...

...you "might" need to do 1 level upgrades.

I am almost positive that the last time I did this it was 2 sub levels difference max, but I could be wrong.

The difference would mean...

5.0.1b --> 5.1.x
5.1.xx --> 5.2.x
5.2.xx --> 5.3.x
5.3.xx --> 6.0.x
6.0.xx --> 6.1.x
6.1.xx --> 6.2.2a

2 additional upgrades during the process (6 instead of 4)

Either way, you are in for a couple of hours per switch ;o)

Re: upgrade StorageWorks 4/8 SAN Switch

1 step will take ~20min. You probably won't find a 6.0.x version, so you need to ask HP for it :-(

Hope this helps!

Better late than never?

Worth mentioning is v6.1.1 and newer drops functionality from the onboard Web Tools. Have to run Data Center Fabric Manager to regain the functionality.
