Re: windows format of eva 5000 lun slow
Hi Trevor,
sure, I will let you know if i get valuable informatiom from Support.
In the meantime i could verify your findings about the creation of a small 1GB Volume which will be extened later via Diskpart ... really interesting!
Regards
Manfred

Re: windows format of eva 5000 lun slow
These format times are consistent with what we've seen on servers attached to ESA's, EMA's and EVA's.
We were recently affected by the unaligned partitions issue (disk timoeout on Exchange servers). We have implemented a policy to align all partitions when they're created, and will be fixing 200+ existing LUNs that are unaligned.

Re: windows format of eva 5000 lun slow
Those full format times are consistent with what I've seen as well. I've been told by various HP storage engineers that a full format is preferred to a quick format in the Windows file system. Supposedly it results in better performance, but I haven't seen any engineering documentation on this.
huh?

Re: windows format of eva 5000 lun slow
I found the same issue on our EVA8000's, very slow format, but is even slower with FATA drives.
Format on XP1024 however was very quick seconds for a 300GB drive.
