Can we create ext4 partition when the servers are on cluster
Hi,
Can we create ext4 partition on of the nodes from the LUN i have presenetd from Nimble Storage.
Here is the scenario: I have a volume groupI created on nimble storage called xyz-volume. On this volume i have two servers/nodes(RHEL6.3). I have presented a 1TiB LUN and now i can see the LUN's on servers.I was trying to create a ext4 filesystem partition of 1TiB on one of the servers but the server went to unresponsive state and resulted to crash. After multiple attempt of restart the server came up but the partition was not successful
Here are the steps i followed
Before the below steps i have added WWIN to multipath.conf and /etc/multipath/bindings
#fdisk /dev/mapper/devicename
used kpart for mapper device
# kpartx -a /dev/mapper/devicename
# ll /dev/mapper/mpath/devicename
Used devicename1 to create ext4 file system # mkfs.ext4 /dev/mapper/devicename1
Thanks
Partha

Re: Can we create ext4 partition when the servers are on cluster
Hello,
Yes, you can create ext4 partitions on LUNs presented from the array.
The command used to create the filesystem is correct.
The server unresponsive state does not appear to be due to the array, but possibly a host issue.
For further assistance please contact Nimble Support @ 1-877-364-6253.
Thanks

Re: Can we create ext4 partition when the servers are on cluster
No, It does not look like a host issue. The host is working perfectly fine
infaact when i created a ext4 partition on a non clustered enviroment it got created easily
