Best practice and experiences on updating a C7000 with OneView

Hi,

We have a really outdated OneView + C7000 environment that we need to get up to date. Also, we've never used OneView to upgrade an entire enclosure.

Looking for your experiences and best practices to do this. Prefereably during office hours.

Our environment:

  • OneView 3.10.07 (planned to update to 3.10.08, no identified features we need in 4.0)
  • C7000 (OA 4.40)
  • BL460c gen9  (system ROM 1.40 (05/06/2015), iLO 1.40 on most servers)
  • HP VC FlexFabric-20/40 F8 Module (ver 4.41)
  • ESXi 6.0 U3
  • VC connects to storage via NFS and have VLAN tunneling enabled
  • Server profile templates are not being used

Questions:

  1. Is lSPP 2018.03.0 stable/recommended? (we are required to patch Spectre/Meltdown)
  2. Because of the old current firmware, can we expect to do several upgrades before being on a recent SPP level? Or is most firmware cumulative?
  3. Is the order for update: Oneview - Enclosure - Servers - VirtualConnect?
  4. What is your other experiences, recommendations that can help us with a smooth upgrade?

Thank you in advance!

/BL
