HPE OneView crashes when discovery ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server

Hello Community

I have a strange behavior on my HPE OneView (vm on vmware) version 4.10.03-0364293. But I already had the behavior in version 4.10.01-0348545.

In the HPE OneView I have about 100 ProLiant servers (DL380 Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10).
One morning the appliance was very slow and showed a lot of mistakes until it made itself a reboot.
After the reboot, the appliance stopped with the error "OneView is not to start" (see attachment OneView_is_unable_to_start.jpg).
I opened a case with HPE -> no help came from HPE. First it was vmware, then the disk, then even the SAN storage that was supposed to cause the problem.
Finally, I found out that it is a ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server that is causing the problem.
As soon as I add the server to the HPE OneView, the appliance hangs up and makes a reboot.
When the appliance is back, I can not refresh or remove the server.
I had to deploy a new appliance, but could not restore the backup, because the error occurs again immediately.
So I had to reinstall the appliance and reconfigure everything (configurations, servers, data centers, racks,...)

I then told HPE the problem and have not received a response yet.

Does anyone know the behavior?

hi @MarioE
One server having a problem should not result in having to reinstall the appliance.
Can you open a support case on this with a support dump?
Let us know once a case has been created.

Re: HPE OneView crashes when discovery ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server

Hello,

By seeing the screenshot its difficult say the cause of the issue.

This could be the issue with communication between ILO and Oneview.

Thanks

Re: HPE OneView crashes when discovery ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server

Hello

I have a case open since 4 weeks.
I have already sent 7GB dumps and logs.
I've already spent over 40 hours on the problem.
I finally found out the problem myself.
And believe me, it's a ProLiant server that is causing the problem.
I can take a new HPE OneView appliance, add the server and have the error directly.
Next week I will try to do factory default reset on the iLO.

So I wanted to ask the community if the problem is known.
I get more help from the community here than from HPE.

Hi @MarioE

Sorry to hear about this.
Good you narrowed this down to be 1 server causing the crash.
Can you ask for the support case to be escalated?

@BhaskarV

Many people from HPE are already involved. It is certainly not up to me...

Hi @MarioE

Can you share the support case id if you happen to have a reference?
Will follow up.

Re: HPE OneView crashes when discovery ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server

I have received an answer from HPE:

Based on the information in the logs that you have provided, along with our testing in HPE lab, the issue appears to be directly related to the number (125) of HDDs that are connected to the server.

There is no workaround for this issue.
You will not be able to monitor the server with the currently released version of OneView.
Future releases of OneView will handle server storage inventory differently, so that this problem will not be an issue.
I expect that a OneView release containing the fix will be available in the March 2019 timeframe, but an exact release date is not known yet.

Configuration:
- HPE OneView Version 4.10.04-0370820
- ProLiant DL380 Gen10
- Controller on Slot 1: HPE Smart Array P408e-p SR Gen10
- Drive Enclosure: 5x D3710
- 25x 300 GB HDD per Drive Enclosure
- Totally 125x 300 GB HDD per Drive Enclosure at the HPE Smart Array P408e-p SR Gen10 Controller

Re: HPE OneView crashes when discovery ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server

I installed HPE OneView version 4.20.01-0380241 today. After the installation I was able to add the server and the appliance is not crashed.

So the problem is fixed in version 4.20.01-0380241.
HPE OneView 4.2 Release Notes:

Resolve an issue when while adding the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 server to HPE OneView, the
appliance stops functioning.
