Thinly Deduped volumes

I am exploring Oneview 3.0 and I want it to replace the traditional management consoles in day-to-day use.

However, it seems that I can't provision TDVV, only TPVV org Thick. Am I missing something?

If not, is it one the roadmap?

In the meantime, is there a safe workaround? I guess I could convert the volumes “behind the back” or create the volumes in the 3PAR cli and import them in Oneview?

Regards

/Søren

Re: Thinly Deduped volumes

Unfortunately, HPE OneView currently does not support providing thin dedup volumes. Yes, we  have it on our roadmap, but I cannot discuss this in a public forum. I would suggest you reach out to your HPE Account team to have an NDA  roadmap brief.

Re: Thinly Deduped volumes

Thanks for your answer. That is too bad and kind of a showstopper :(

I will not double the cost of my allflash array!

I experimented with creating the TDVVs in the traditional tools and importing them into Oneview. They gets listed as thin, but otherwise Oneview seems to handle it well.

Is this a viable option until Oneview gets support for TDVV?

Re: Thinly Deduped volumes

Yes, you can safely either:

1) create your TDVV volumes on 3PAR, then add them into OneView

2) create full or TPVV volumes from OneView, then convert them to TDVV volume on 3PAR.

Re: Thinly Deduped volumes

Hi Gary,

How can you be sure? Have you found anything in writing?

Since Oneview do not officially support the creation of dedup volumes

In a hypothetical situation, where you upgrade Oneview, one could imagine that Oneview misunderstand a flag and then does something unexpected.

Gary is the Architect for the Storage functionality in HPE OneView.  He is providing an authoritive answer.

Re: HPE 3PAR TDVVs

This would be more efficient, since you don't have to run tunevv to convert.
