one server keeps have alert for network status

Hi All,

we install OneView 4.20.01.01 recently.

we monitor over 50 servers. but ONE of them keeps have alert"

"Name: The overall status of the system network is in the error state."

Resolution: If this server is powered off, booting, or shutting down, occasional networking alerts may occur as the network adapters negotiate with the switch or interconnect. These alerts can be ignored and should clear automatically. If this server is booted up and running an operating system, there may be a real networking problem. For more information, log into iLO and check the IML (Integrated Management Logs) to find out which network components are not working. Also on the iLO, check the "Network" or "NIC" tab under "System Information" for additional details."

The symptom is:

- OneView report error

- after minutes / hours (it is random) , it will report "The overall status of the system network is ok."

- But after report "OK", just around one to two minutes later, OneView will report "The overall status of the system network is in the error state" again...

Our environment, information and findings are:

- It occurs since OneView 4.20.01.01 nstalled in Apr

- It does not happen in previous version 3.00.04 for this machine (and also no issue for other machine)

- We tried remove this server from OneView for hours, and add back again, but no luck.

- The model of the monitored server is DL388 Gen9. System ROM P89 v2.56 (01/22/2018). We have other servers in the same site and other sites. Other servers do have such issue.

Is there idea to fix it? thanks

Sammy

Re: one server keeps have alert for network status

I had the same issue on multiple servers.

Cause 1
false alert because of Insight on servers with ILO4 every time the server recycle.
Solution 1
We uninstall Insight on all Gen 8 and Gen 9. There's no need for it on Gen 8 + with OneView and fix our problem.

Cause 2
One or multiple the Nic was not in use and disconnected. Therefore it thinks there's an issue and send those alerts.
Solution 2
Simply disable the Nics you dont use.

Cause 3
The Nic kept randomly disconnecting. in our case it was the switch port flapping but could have be a faulty Nic.

Solution 3
Clean the switch port, reset the switch port, replace as needed the fiber cable, SFP or the eternet card.
