Smart Array P420i drive replacements
Hi,
We have an array with 8 drives in a RAID 1+0 configuration and we want to upgrade the drives from 600GB to 1.2TB
Am I right in thinking we can actually replace 4 drives simultaneously in order to upgrade? The alternative is a painfully slow rebuild of 3 hours per drive times 8 drives. Bearing in mind this is a remote DC, that's not a job I fancy doing.
Any thoughts?
Andy

Re: Smart Array P420i drive replacements
I assume you're more worried about your time on station than the total time?
Or how your performance will be degraded.
(And you know which 4 of the 8 to replace?)

Re: Smart Array P420i drive replacements
Hi,
The virtuals on this infrastructure are not yet live so performance is not the issue. It's merely a way to avoid rebuilding the virtual infrastructure from scratch.
As for the drives, there are 4 drives in each of 2 trays. It's safe to assume that everything in tray 1 could be removed without loss of data, but could we rebuild ?
Thanks
Andy
