When do the OVC's reboot during an upgrade?

When do the OVC's reboot during an upgrade?

Doing my first upgrade from 3.7.7 to 3.7.9 then to 4.0.1U1. Two clusters in a federation. We have VSphere standard licensing if that matters.

So far I've cycled through my hosts and updated their firmware based off the compatability list for 3.7.9.

Trying to wrap my head around if I need to evacuate each host again and apply the OVC updates or will storage HA ensure the VM's stay up as the OVC reboots after they upgrade?

Same question when I go to commit the fedration when all hosts hae been upraded, OVC's all stay up?

Main goal is to ensure no down time during he upgrades as we are 24x7.

I'm patching our federation right now as well.

You only need to evacuate the hosts when doing the firmware/vmware upgrades.  For the OVC's the upgrade manager checks if any VM's are running on the hosts.  If there are then it upgrades the OVC's one at a time so that storage HA keeps the VM online.

The commit is a quick process with no downtime as well.

Thanks! That's what I thought but wanted to double check with someone that has been through a update.
