Summary of 3 Best Practices whitepapers specifically for Oracle on the HPE 3PAR Storage Array
For many years our best practices papers for Oracle on storage have been a popular download for both employees and customers. We would like to continue the trend and I thought it would be good to share a few best practice papers available in this space both from a server and storage perspective.
In this blog I will be sharing 3 specific papers. You can download them and dig in deeper. I will share a brief summary for each and provide the link to them. Below are the papers we will highlight:
- HPE Best Practices for Oracle 12c1 on HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage with Compression
- HPE Reference Architecture for Oracle RAC 12c best practices and scaling on HPE Synergy Gen10 platforms and HPE 3PAR StoreServ 9450 Storage
- Best Practices for Oracle Database on HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage
Letโs get startedโฆ
HPE Best Practices for Oracle 12c1 on HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage with Compression
The purpose of this best practices paper is to show you how HPE 3PAR Adaptive Data Reduction, specifically the compression component, adds value to your Oracle storage environment and creates improvements to your management experience.
Some of the advantages discussed are the cost savings by significantly reducing the need for storage space. With everyone going to all flash these days, there is a need to be prudent about how storage space is used. The paper demonstrates how easy it is to enable the all-inclusive licensed compression on the 3PAR. This compression feature is also a great way to offload the capacity management to storage admins as opposed to paying for Oracle compression licenses. HPE 3PAR compression offers very good compression ratios as well.
Both DSS and OLTP workloads are discussed. Also the compression of 3PAR versus Oracle compression were compared. There are definitely benefits to compression and cost savings with HPE 3PAR compression.
See the summary table below from the HPE Best Practices for Oracle 12c1 on HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage with Compression whitepaper.

For our next paper!
HPE Reference Architecture for Oracle RAC 12c best practices and scaling on HPE Synergy Gen10 platforms and HPE 3PAR StoreServ 9450 Storage
This paper is a great solutions whitepaper that includes not only storage but best practices using 3PAR storage with HPEโs new Gen10 servers running Synergy. The key components of this solution are HPE Synergy Composer, HPE Synergy Image Streamer, HPE Synergy Gen10 Compute Modules, HPE 3PAR StoreServ 9450 all-flash storage, HPE Application Tuner Express, and Oracle Real Application Clusters.
HPE Image Streamer is used to deploy the solution and provides a friendly dashboard for managing all of the images and server resources.
HPE 3PAR StoreServ 9450 all-flash storage
The 9450 flash array is perfect for consolidating primary storage workloads but still maintaining and even improving performance, scalability, and resiliency. Read about capabilities like cross-stack analytics, global visibility and the addition of the foundation for predictive support. This is all accomplished with HPE 3PAR Infosight on 9450.
Reference Architecture Solution benefits for Oracle
- Performance
- Data efficiency and data reduction
- High availability and data protection
Below is a diagram showing the entire reference architecture solution.
Here is where you can get the paper! It is a great read!
Best Practices for Oracle Database on HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage
For the third paper I wanted to share, this whitepaper is a more general best practices document for deploying Oracle databases on HPE 3PAR StoreServ arrays. Areas of interest in best practices cover general configuration management, Adaptive Data Reduction with Oracle, performance considerations using 3PAR and data protection considerations.

Also go to the HPE Storage for Oracle Databases to see other Solutions, Case Studies and Resources.
Check them out!!! Please blog any questions you may need addressing or just any general discussion is welcome!
