SN1100Q 16GB Dual Port HBA and MSL6000 tape library

Have a DL380 Gen9 Server 2019 with the SN1100Q 16GB Dual Port PCIe Fibre Channel HBA trying to connect to our MSL6000 tape library.  Cannot see the library in Windows (Backup Exec), and when scanning for fibre devices in the RBSU nothing is found.  I know the tape library is pretty old so maybe it's not supported?  Entirely new to this so any help/input is appreciated!

Hi,

have you directly connect the MSL Tape with the Server?

Then you may have to configure the MSL Tape from "Fabric" to "Loop".

Or is the Tape and Server connected by a SAN Switch?

Then you have to configure a Zoning on the Switch.

Hold your Handy Camera to the FC Cable End and also to the Server HBA to check, if there is a Light on one Fibre.

Or do you see a LED coming Up if you connect the cable to the HBA in the Server?

Thank you, yes it's connected directly with fiber.  I'm actually swapping from an old server with the same connection, so I would assume nothing would change on the MSL.

I do see light on either end of the fiber.  When connecting to the server the three flashing LEDs on the HBA will change to a single solid LED.

The older MSL 6000, have 1 & 2GB FC Ports.
The SN 1100Q Supports 16/8/4 GB.
May be, that the other Server have a 8GB Cart that Support 8/4/2GB.

The card in the old server was 2GB I believe, does this mean that the new 16GB card would not be compatible with the old MSL6000 and it's 1GB/2GB ports?

Yes, that's the problem.

If the Tape has a 2GB FC Link, you can use an 81Q or 82Q Card with 8GB.

If it has a 1GB FC you need a very old 4GB HBA.

OK, thank you for your help.  I guess I'll have to see if we could buy another card for this server that would compatible, I'm guessing not though.
