Any operability between a P2000 and P4300?
I have a P4300 SAN system at my district office and have P2000 G3's at two branch sites. Is there any mechanism or software that can be put in place to remote copy or replicate data between the two easily. I'm talking about SAN to SAN, not going through a Windows box.
P.S. This thread has been moevd from Storage Area Networks (SAN) (Enterprise) to HP StoreVirtual Storage / LeftHand. - Hp Forum Moderator

Re: Any operability between a P2000 and P4300?
There are plenty of 3rd party software based data mirroring packages.
These options would be though a Windows or Linux server though.
Now... what you CAN do...
Run a VSA at your branch sites to have compatibilty for array based replication. This would require a virtual machine host at each site that can run the VSA.
With the VSA, you can do Remote Copy between the p4300 and each site. You should have licenses already too since you have the 4300.
The VSA works with either Hyper-V or VMware ESX/ESXi.

The server connects to the storage array. You present the storage to the VSA.
You clients can connect via iSCSI to the VSA... and the VSA RC's back to the P4300 as long as you have sufficient bandwidth between the sites.

Re: Any operability between a P2000 and P4300?
As Steven suggests above...
What you can do is to get the P2000 to present a LUN to the server and then install the VSA on that presented LUN (storage capacity) Usually you would use ESX or there is now a Hyper-V VSA as well.
You can get the VSA and CMC from here for free but you will need to purchase a licence for EACH VSA from HP:
https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductsList.do?category=SWSDED
Note if you do not get a licence for your VSA then after 60 days it will stop functioning and you may not be able to access your data.
When using a VSA the maximum you can create is 10TB for the VSA to use (5 x 2TB luns).

ESX (and I believe Hyper-v) fully support iSCSi Storage Connections.
No need for additional hardware. (SAS Controller)
