Can Lefthand P4500 can used as NAS BOX. Is there any document from HP for this. Please help.

Most likely simson is referring to CIFS share and the answer is yes and no.

Yes, if you put a X3000 NAS head and use LHN as storage.

Answer is no, if you just want to use the P4500 to share out the CIFS/FTP.

The HP P4000 series systems are iSCSI (block) storage devices and cannot directly serve files.

As Amardeep wrote, you can put a server (Linux, Windows, special NAS boxes) *between* the P4000 and the clients to work as a "NAS gateway".

The question is how you define NAS, because the Lefthands are network attached too. But based on the other posts it makes some sense now.

From what I have learned:
- NAS = file serving (NFS/CIFS(SMB))
- SAN = block serving (FC, iSCSI)

To the best of my knowledge there will be a new LHN G2 /SAN/iQ 8.5 (8.5 from end March) and available from April (unless date changes!?) there will be a NAS variant.
Not available today... but soon.
