HP P4500 G2 system board replacement

Hi!

Initially, I had such a problem: HP P4500 G2 does not turn on. So we buy new system board (spare 583736-001) and when i replace it storage start to power on, but with error code 1611 - Fan Solution Not Sufficient, Fan 4 missing and power off in 5 seconds. Storage have "Redundant Fan Configuration" - 4 pair of fans, i plug them to following connectors:

System fan 1/2 to J63 on the system board
System fan 3/4 to J71 on the system board
System fan 5/6 to J62 on the system board
System fan 7/8 to J68 on the system board

(From HP ProLiant DL180 G6 Server Maintenance and Service Guide)
I try different fans (i have some spare fans), clear nwram (System maintenance swich S6), to swap fans - nothing helps. Then i try to popolate fan connector #4 with additional single fan and storage can post (with fan 4 warning) and load os. But this is not the solution - I think that the problem is probably in the Jumper Setting, but i cant find and guide for HP P4500 G2 system board or matetials on HP Partner Services Media Library. I also think that it may be old BIOS firmware (2010 year), but firmware from DL180 G6 is unsuitable, and i can find special P4500 G2 BIOS.
Has anyone faced with a similar fan problem? Or may be someone have system board replacement guige?

Re: HP P4500 G2 system board replacement

DL180G6 is correct. There is no special BIOS.

I found another connection table in my manual:

System fan 1 J63 on the system board
System fan 2 J71 on the system board
System fan 3 J62 on the system board
System fan 4 J68 on the system board

for non-redundant fans (4), your table is for redundant fans (8).

Since you have redundant fans, a single fan fail must not stop the system.

Question is, is the server aware of 8 fans?

IIRC your BIOS version has a "fan problem" (2010.05.19 - maybe).

Try

Re: HP P4500 G2 system board replacement

I notised, that original DL180G6 system board (507255-001) and my P4500G2 (583736-001) have small differences - for example, Leftahand board have 4 pins for jumpers (on photos).

When i can post storage with additianl fan in slot 4 - i launch Spp 2015.10. But it can update only iLO, smart array controller and drives. I check bios version in Revision History of them, and i cant fint my version - 10/14/2010 (on photo). To make sure that BIOSes are different i launch ROMPaq from your link below, and it write - "cannot start, flash versions are different" or something similar.

is the server aware of 8 fans?

how i can check it?

Re: HP P4500 G2 system board replacement

I found a different informaton specific to P4500 G2.

Fans are always numbered like this:

HP ProLiant DL180 G6 Server Maintenance and Service Guide - 2.jpg

Same numbering for 8 redundant fans, from 1-4 only.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP P4500 G2 system board replacement

Fist i try to connect redundant fans like at your last picture: connctors 1, 2, 4, 6. Eroror changed - now is: Fan 3 missing.

Unfortunately, I did not have spare y-cables, so i randomly swap them. Nothing change ;(

I continue to search, but did not find any official guidance for parts replacement for LeftHand.

Re: HP P4500 G2 system board replacement

The Y-cable should be 536646-001.

AFAIK there are no special manuals if a server is used as a lefthand node - it remains just a DL180G6.

You may even try the 4 fan configuration (should not make a difference, since it looks like the y-cable just connect a second fan - the system is probably not aware of this).

Can you see the fan status in BIOS (anywhere on the advanced page you should see fan and voltage status) and/or ILO (LO-100)?

Please compare the manual page 132 again for the connectors.

Once you have the node running, you need to boot it and shutdown again. Then create an USB device with this:

http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_1d48ae3f19d945b481c20736d6

to update the serial.

You can even try it now to get the model:

c:\setsys >text.txt

so you get a text file on the USB device containing the values.

Hope this helps!
