Lefthand P4300, Symantec Backup Exec 12.5, VSS Errors
Hello,
Our environment:
- HP DL380 G6 w/ Win 2008 Storage Srv Ed.
- HP Lefthand P4300, 2 nodes
- Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 - remote agent for Windows
Trouble:
VSS errors are occurring every few minutes referencing the Lefthand VSS Provider. VSS errors are also apparent in Backup Exec's logs, and always sets the job status as failed.
Error 1 - VSS Event ID 22:
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: A critical component required by the Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered. This might happened if an error occurred during Windows setup or during installation of a Shadow Copy provider. The error returned from CoCreateInstance on class with CLSID {a80b78ae-c1b1-4a80-ba31-d3b9494d349c} and Name HWPRV is [0x80040154].
Error 2 - VSS 12292
Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error creating the Shadow Copy Provider COM class with CLSID {a80b78ae-c1b1-4a80-ba31-d3b9494d349c} [0x80040154].
I read a few documents about configuring Backup Exec and LH VSS for transportable snapshots and such. I dont believe this feature is necessary at this time in our organization. However, I would like to eliminate the errors on the file server, as well as the failed job status in BackupExec.
Any pointers? Can I somehow switch off the LH VSS Providers, without disabling VSS as a whole?
Thanks!
