Storage Boards Cleanup
To make it easier to find information about HPE Storage products and solutions, we are doing spring cleaning. This includes consolidation of some older boards, and a simpler structure that more accurately reflects how people use HPE Storage.

NW R5 vs NW R10

Of the following 2 options which would usually perform better?

Option 1:

Hardware RAID 5 on the shelf, and network RAID 10 on the volumes.

Option 2:

Hardware RAID 10 on the shelf, and network RAID 5 on the volumes.

Initially we are starting with 2 shelves, however we plan to up this to 4 within a few months - so not sure if we should be starting with hardware RAID 10 on the shelves instead of 5.

Hardware RAID 5 and Network RAID 10.

Software based parity calculation will always be inferior performance to a dedicated hardware parity RAID controller.

Plus this (HW RAID 5 with software RAID 10) has the default and recommended cluster configuration from HP/Lefthand for as long as I have been working with them.

Re: NW R5 vs NW R10

Hi teledata,

Thanks for the info, sounds like we will stick with the HW RAID 5, and NW RAID 10!
