P4500 BBU Cache problems

I am having this BBU cache critical problem.

I have tried following-

- Rebuilding RAID

- Change the battery for the cache

Any ideas?

Re: P4500 BBU Cache problems

If I remember correctly the P4500 is a DL185G5 with a smartarray P400. I would boot the node and watch the console - any error codes from the controller? Cache module shown?
The problem can be the battery, the cache module or the controller itself.

Hope this helps!

Re: P4500 BBU Cache problems

I tried to boot the nodes to see if any errors occurred on the cache, battery, or controller it self.

But no errors were reflected.

I did find a patch : SAN/iQ patch to address an incorrect RAID controller BBU status. Applies to SAN/iQ 8.5

But following the guide how to patch :

  1. Select the first storage node you want to upgrade.
  2. Click Storage Node Tasks and select Install Software.
  3. On the Install Software window, click Browse... and select the patch upgrade file that you downloaded from the web site.
  4. Select Open Install File.
  5. Select the storage nodes that require the patch.
  6. Select Install file on selected Storage nodes one at a time (Recommended).
  7. Click OK.

I have downloaded the patch. But I am not able to perform the above task. When pointing the Storage I am not able to choose “install software” and cannot point to the downloaded patch.

Any idea?

Re: P4500 BBU Cache problems

Sure you still run version 8.5?

If the diagnostic in CMC did not show the problem you could consider to boot the node from the current SPP image, start the smart array diagnostic and check the battery status of the cache module.

Hope this helps!
